PHL Post to issue stamps marking Malabon church’s 400th anniversary.

On Saturday, the Philippine Postal Corp. will start issuing commemorative stamps marking the 400th anniversary of San Bartolome Parish de Malabon, one of the country's oldest churches.

PHLPost assistant postmaster-general for marketing Luis Carlos will present the stamps to San Bartolome Parish priest Fr. Ricardo Torrefiel on Saturday.

"The commemorative stamp features the old structure as it diffuses alongside the renovated and preserved edifice of the parish insinuating the massive transformation the building has gone through, the image of Saint Bartholomew (Malabon’s patron saint) and the quadricentennial logo on its foreground,"PHLPost said in a news release.

Some 104,000 stamps worth P20 each will be made available at the Post Shop, Philately and Museum Division of the Manila Central Post Office and at all its regional offices.

Augustinian priests founded the first parish of San Bartolome de Malabon on May 17, 1964, the day of its independence from "Vicariato" of Tondo, Manila.

Each stamp measures 80mm x 30mm, 40mm wider than the usual issuance. The stamps are designed by PHLPost in-house artist Victorino Serevo.

PHLPost noted the San Bartolome Parish de Malabon has ionic columns inspired by Greco-Roman temple, and a dome whose ceiling has paintings of saints and Biblical scenes.

The stone church building was built in 1622. Presently, the parish is covered by the Barangay San Agustin and Barangay Tanong, with small pastoral churches. It was under the direction of the diocese of Caloocan.
